Why should I take a Breastfeeding Basics Class?
This class is designed to help you feel more confident about your choice to breastfeed. We will provide you and your partner with evidence based information to help you have a successful breastfeeding relationship with your newborn. With accurate information and a new support network, you will leave feeling empowered to make breastfeeding work for you.
What do I need to know about breastfeeding?
Many mothers prepare extensively for childbirth, but feel unprepared for taking care of a newborn. During class we will discuss the first feeding and the importance of skin to skin contact. We will answer questions like, why should I breastfeed? How often will my baby eat? What is Colostrum? How much milk will I produce? What position should I hold my baby? How many diapers will I be changing? Will breastfeeding hurt? How can my partner help? Where and when should I get help if I need it?
Who should take this class?
This class is appropriate for pregnant moms and their support person. Also, any parents of a newborn learning to care for their baby will greatly benefit from this class.
