The whole point of woman-centered birth is the knowledge that a woman is the birth power source. She may need, and deserve, help, but in essence, she always had, currently has, and will have the power.~Heather McCue
I have been the owner/Senior midwife at Ancient Paths for over 12 years. As a midwife, I believe that the emotional well-being of a woman and her family directly affects her experience of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Because of this, my care is holistic - focusing on the body, mind, and spirit of every woman I serve. I am trained to provide a safe medical environment for mothers and do so through monitoring, testing, and careful consideration of maternal and fetal well-being. Because I believe that the mother-baby connection is of utmost importance, that relationship is honored at all times. My relationships with my patients are personal and unique, and each mother is given as much time and energy as she needs to successfully journey her way into motherhood. I specialize in water birth, VBACs and Home birth. As of September 2015, the opening of Ancient Paths Birth and Wellness Center also provides the opportunity for families to birth either at home or our birth center, and we welcome any woman in our community to take part in our classes, support groups, and other services regardless of where she is giving birth or who her chosen provider is.
I encourage every woman to be in control of their own care, and to let the natural process of birth be as undisturbed as possible. Birth is made to work, and a midwife’s job is to protect that natural process, as well as possessing the wisdom and experience to know when and how to help if needed. I believe that education, healthy eating, communication, safety, and support are the key elements to a successful birthing experience. I am honored to be a part of so many families’ experiences of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.
I live in Coeurd’Alene and am happily married to my partner, Mike. Together we have 9 children (six of which live at home full-time) and 3 beautiful grandbabies (the last of which was born at the center!). I am a die-hard soccer fan and soccer-mom, so when I am not working I am likely cheering someone on from the sidelines!
If you have any questions, please call me at (208) 415-1788 for a free consultation, tour of the center, or to inquire about placenta encapsulation services. Many blessing to you as you experience this journey – whatever you do, trust your own wisdom!
Our goal at Ancient Paths is to build capable, confident families through education with the support, wisdom, and compassion of our trusted and experienced providers.
