Over the past several decades, women have lost their faith in breastfeeding. Just as we trust our bodies to birth, we can trust our bodies to nourish our babies. After all, babies are born to breastfeed. Our bodies are designed to provide nutrition and comfort through breastfeeding. I am committed to empowering women through education, support, and encouragement and in turn restore their faith in breastfeeding.~Jennifer McIntosh IBCLC
What led me to become a Lactation Consultant was my own experience with breastfeeding. After the birth of my first child, I felt unprepared and unsure about the process of breastfeeding and caring for my newborn. At the time our community lacked resources for breastfeeding moms. I struggled through minor issues and went on to breastfeed my 4 subsequent children. After my third was born, I found a local LLL group. The first meeting I went to felt like coming home. I entered a room full of breastfeeding moms with toddlers in tow, all sharing their experiences and triumphs. I was so pleased to see that these moms had found the support they needed when their breastfeeding relationships were new and difficult. To help sustain this incredibly valuable resource in the community, I became an accredited La Leche League Leader. That was six years ago.
This passion for supporting breastfeeding moms continued. As my children became more independent, I saw an opportunity to return to school and further my education in the field of lactation. I became a Board Certified Lactation Consultant in October, 2015. My desire is to nurture and serve moms in our community by helping them reach their breastfeeding goals. I believe every mother knows her baby best and should be respectfully supported in her decisions to care for her child.
My husband and I have five children, all girls, ages 6-14. One of my goals, as a Lactation Consultant and parent of future women, is to normalize breastfeeding for future generations. If my children and yours find it easier to choose breastfeeding, then I have made an impact.
Our goal at Ancient Paths is to build capable, confident families through education with the support, wisdom, and compassion of our trusted and experienced providers.
